Liebster Award – Discover New Blogs

”Liebster

First off, I’d like to thank Joyce from The Paperback Princess for nominating me! Be sure to check out her blog!!

These are the rules as explained to me:

• Thank the person who has nominated you for the Award.

• Answer the 11 questions the person has asked you

• Nominate up to 11 people

• Ask the people who you have nominated 11 questions

So…here we go:

1. What is your favourite genre?

My absolute favourite genre would be mystery/suspense. There is nothing more engaging for a reader than a well-crafted mystery full of suspense.

2. Who is your favourite villain?

I prefer complex villains as opposed to the simply evil variety. I like them to be close to the line between good and evil, and even to be seen as good from a different angle. This makes them interesting to read about. For me, no one does this better than Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader. Just think about his progression and you’ll see how he could be the hero of those stories!!

3. If you could be a character from a book, who would it be & why?

So many characters to choose from, this is a tough one. If I could be only one though it would have to be Jason Bourne for three reasons. First, you get to travel all over the world. Second, you get to kick serious butt. And third, as a main character I’d never die 😉

4. Who is your favourite author?

Hands down my favourite author is Patrick Redmond. I’ve loved everything he’s written so far and cannot wait for new material from him. So if you’re reading this Patrick…let’s go! lol

5. What are you currently reading? And are you liking it so far?

I’ve just begun A Subtle Agency by Graeme Rodaughan; it’s intriguing so far but too soon to tell. I recently finished Armada by Ernest Cline and found it to be amazing! A very fun summer read!! I’m also working my way through

6. Which genre do you absolutely hate?

I don’t really have a genre that I hate; that’s such a strong reaction. There are genres that I don’t read like erotica, or westerns, or romance (though I have been known to help out romance authors I know by reading their works) but I have nothing against them personally. Just not for me 🙂

7. How do you organize your books on your bookshelf?

Currently the only books on my shelf are the 750+ graphic novels I own and those I organize chronologically. Anyone into comics will recognize what a herculean feat that is!!

8. What are your bookish pet peeves?

Number 1 pet peeve for me is book reviews that recite the blurb word for word. This isn’t a review people—if I want to read the blurb I will. A review is meant to give me your thoughts on the book—that’s what I’m looking for in the review! Another one that’s been bugging me lately is books that claim they’re “the next Girl on a Train” or “for fans of Gone Girl”. Honestly, if I want to read those I will, and have. But if I’m looking for a book then I’m looking for something new not something already done.

9. Which do you prefer: Hardcover, Paperback or ebook?

For years, I stubbornly resisted digital in all its forms. Looking back now I can’t understand why? I’m a Kindle guy and prefer to read my novels as ebooks. The convenience factor (not to mention the price) is far superior to print.

10. Have you ever bought a book without reading the description?

I can’t say I’ve ever done this. Even if the cover is gorgeous, before I commit to a book I need to know what it’s about. It’s why I tell new authors their blurb shouldn’t be something they throw together at the last minute. It needs thought and attention if you want to elevate to success.

11. Where is your favourite place to read?

Again the advantage of a Kindle means I can read just about anywhere. And I do! No real favourite place but one place I won’t read is the washroom 🙂

My Nominees:

I’m afraid I don’t know many on here yet so this list will be short 😉

Joanna Elm

Alex R Carver

Aislinn Kearns

Erin Lee Daniels

My Questions:

1. What is your favourite genre?

2. If you could only recommend 1 book, what would it be?

3. What place in the world have you never been but would love to go?

4. Do you relate more to heroes or villains?

5. What are you reading now? Are you enjoying it?

6. What do you prefer, a good book or a good movie?

7. Does the cover matter to you when reading a book?

8. Are you a fan of book series’ or not?

9. If you could describe yourself in 1 word, what would it be?

10. If you could visit any period in history, what would you choose?

11. Is there anything you won’t read?
